Durga Ma with her son Ganesha

This is a painting of Ma Durga holding her son Ganesha in her lap.  I was inspired by Jamini Roy's art collections to do this artwork on the occasion of Mother's day in 2020. The background was my creation. It was done on mixed media paper using acrylic paints. Jamini Roy was a West Bengal artist of the 1800s who had his own style of painting using dark flat colors and used bold lines for outlining the drawings.  His art had a flavor of folk art and the eyes of his subjects were characteristic in all his artworks.

The above art was done on a 10 by 11 inches mixed media paper using Faber Castle and Prisma color pencils.

Kangra art

This is another Kangra miniature painting done in 2016 with watercolors on 8.5 x 11inches of paper. This art is also called Pahari painting, covering the style that the Rajput rulers patronized between the 17th and 19th centuries. Such types of paintings exhibit the taste and the traits of the lifestyle of the men and women of that period.

Miniature Art

This is a Kangra miniature art done with watercolor on 8.5 by 11 inches multimedia paper.  The beauty of this art is the detailed work and bright colors. I have always been fascinated by the works of miniature artists.  My interest in this type of art grew after visiting Jaipur's government art workshop gallery in 2008 where I saw several unknown artists painting very detailed pictures of different subjects with perfection using very fine brushes. I was in awe looking at their focus and steady hands while giving perfect brush strokes on the paper. Since then I had always aspired to do a few such types of art. This is one of my first attempts at the miniature art of Meera Bai.

Mosaic Art

This is an eggshell mosaic art of a  Toucan bird on an 11 bt 14 inches canvas board,  The painting was done with acrylic paints. The initial sketch of the bird and the branches was done on the canvas prior to sticking the eggshell pieces using Elmers glue. After sticking the eggshells, the painting was done using acrylic paints. I got inspired to do this painting after seeing this colorful Toucan in Mexico during our visit to Cancun several years ago.

Portrait of a Young Girl

I did this portrait in oil on a 11 by 14" canvas. This work was inspired by Flemish artist Peter Paul Ruben's 1616 masterpiece"Portrait of a Young Girl". I completed this work in 2011 while attending an oil painting workshop in Sterling Hall at Lake Forest, IL. It was a challenging project for me to match the skin tones with the original work. Apparently, in the painting, the young girl is Ruben's 12 year old daughter Clara Serena.
